Maintenance Manager

Location: Orion Safety Products – 3157 N 500 W, Peru, IN, 46970
Department: Operations / Manufacturing
Reports To: Plant Manager / Director of Operations

Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations within the manufacturing facility to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. This role leads the maintenance team, develops preventive maintenance programs, minimizes downtime, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Experience with electrical systems is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop maintenance technicians and support staff
  • Schedule and prioritize maintenance activities to support production goals
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance management for maintenance personnel
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to company policies

Maintenance Operations

  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs
  • Ensure timely repair of machinery, equipment, and facility systems
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance tasks
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment history

Electrical Systems (Preferred Experience)

  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, motors, drives, PLCs, and control panels
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized electrical work when necessary

Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze equipment performance and implement reliability improvements
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives
  • Support capital improvement projects, including equipment upgrades and installations

Budget & Inventory Management

  • Develop and manage maintenance department budget
  • Control maintenance costs while maintaining high operational standards
  • Manage spare parts inventory and vendor relationships

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Electrical troubleshooting and industrial electrical experience strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems
  • Experience with PLCs, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial automation preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills

Role Overview:

The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.    
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years in industrial maintenance work.
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
